Ο John Haughm μαζί με την παρέα του  πέταξαν το παλιό του δέρμα τους και δημιούργησαν τους Pillorian. Το απόσταγμα είναι βουκολικό ,σκοτεινό μα πάνω απ’ όλα ατμοσφαιρικό .Το στοίχημα όμως είναι να «δέσουν» σαν ομάδα καθώς ενώ είναι ένας πολύ σωστά αποδοσμένος δίσκος με ταυτότητα ,δεν φτάνει περασμένα μεγαλεία . Θα έκρινα ότι βρίσκεται  ανάμεσά  στο Pale Folklore και το Devoid of Light . Αρκετά καλοί παρόλαυτα.

John Haughm along with his companion renewed and create Pillorian. The result is pretty dark and above all, makes a suitable atmosphere. The real challenge is to bond together as group, since it is a carefully constructed album, but doesn’t reach greatness of previous efforts. I would say that album is something between the Pale Folklore and the Devoid of Light. Check it.

There are albums that you know will be fantastic immediately. Fodder for the Callous sends chills into your ears right from the first song’s intro. The atmosphere on this album is like a thick, black fog so bleak and all-consuming that you think you’ll never see the light again—absolutely suffocating. You can feel the crushing despair and darkness seeping into your body through the entire four songs.
All of this is an extremely poignant reminder of the world we live in. Cuscuta’s concept for this album was to take four poems by Xu Lizhi and put them to music. No one knows better than Xu Lizhi of the abysmal vice called capitalism that is constricting the necks of the world and driving the life out of our bodies. After writing some fantastically depressing poetry, Xu Lizhi committed suicide because of the horrible life he led as a factory worker for Foxconn. Dylan’s music perfectly emulates the moods that Xu Lizhi portrays in his poetry. His haunting screams belt out the defeated lyrics like in “A Screw Fell to the Ground” : “A screw fell to the ground / in this dark night of overtime / plunging vertically, lightly clinking / it won’t attract anyone’s attention / just like last time / on a night like this / when someone plunged to the ground.“
Fodder for the Callous is filled with haunting guitar work, both distorted and clean, and none of it is remotely uplifting at all. The only song that breaks this mood ever so slightly is the finale, “On My Deathbed,” which I interpret as the feeling of relief that death brings an end to suffering. If you’re in an anti-capitalist mood, this is the perfect album for you. If you’re in any other mood, this album will bring you where you need to be to enjoy the music. Haunted, tortured, angry, depressed, and feeling helpless, Cuscuta has created a masterpiece with this album. Though 2015 had some amazing albums, none of them touched me as profoundly as this one. Turn on Fodder for the Callous and you won’t regret it; you’ll only regret that it makes you feel like you’re perpetually driving to work, stuck in a traffic jam before you even get there, surrounded by a dark mist that you can never escape, and starting to choke.

Όταν είδα τον τίτλο του δίσκου μου θύμισε το ποίημα του Μπωντλαίρ . Η τέχνη καμιά φορά αναπαράγεται  αμφίδρομα σκέφτηκα  και τον κατέβασα.  Οι Avoid είναι μια νεοτεχνική μπάντα που κινείται σε ατμοσφαιρικά κύματα με low tempo , δεν στερείται Post στοιχείων και θα την χαρακτήριζα αξιοπρεπέστατη προσπάθεια για αρχή.

At the time I saw the title of the album, it came to my mind the poem of Baudelaire. Sometimes art comes both ways, that’s why I downloaded it. Avoid of Light is a newtechnic band that follows low tempo atmospheric waves. It doesn’t lack of post characteristics and I would describe it as an exceptional effort, as a start.

Usually the bands that tend to follow antisocial Black Metal, are aweseome. Especially, if they originate from Cascadia then we reach a new level. Gedden is a Metal hero that gives everything he has to this wonderful album Every song – light to the penumbra of Leviathan.

Only two tracks in length (though they are lengthy tracks at 18:29 and 20:52), yet Cuscuta gets their message across perfectly. With hauntingly powerful black metal, Cuscuta tells a dark tale of how mankind has become separated from nature. The mournful cries of Evergreen are even more poignant due to the fact that his other Rocky Mountain Black Metal project, Evergreen Refuge, is completely instrumental. This welling of dissatisfaction with civilization—and mankind’s separation from the natural world—burst out of him, creating a new project to express this anger, frustration, and sorrow.
Samples from John Zerzan are aptly used to highlight these themes:
“I’d like to see a gigantic project of dismantling. Of just getting rid of all this stuff and tearing up the freeways and roads and just getting rid of all this stuff that rests on the destruction f nature—that separates us from the natural world—that has people on this treadmill to constantly work and constantly consume. . . ”
The songs move between the ominous atmospheres of the softer sections and the harsh distorted blasts of the lengthy black metal sections (and even some more doomy parts) seamlessly and without disrupting the overall mood. Occasionally a more melodic section will come along, yet it’s always appropriately dark. Evergreen really focused his dark mood for this album. Nothing seems out of place.

Η μπάντα με τους υπέροχους τίτλους και τις ακόμα πιο υπέροχες συνθέσεις, επέστρεψε πιο ώριμη από ποτέ. Το παίξιμο στην κιθάρα που ακούγεται κάθε νότα ξεχωριστά και η κάθε «πενιά» καρφώνεται στα τάστα  με πωρώνει. Όλος ο δίσκος είναι ένα όμορφο στραπατσαρισμένο -απόκοσμο riff που ξεκίνα στην αρχή και στο τέλος του δίσκου και διέπει όλα τα τραγούδια.

This band with its great titles and even better creations is backing more ripe than ever. I get excited by the control of the guitar that makes every single note produced in a unique way. The whole disk is a beautifully   “screwed up” riff that dominates on all songs from the beginning til the end of it.

Αν ψάχνεις κάτι ωμό , ψάχνεις λάθος.  Οι Jarun είναι βαθύτατα εσωστρεφής μπάντα, με έφεση στο να δημιουργεί ατμόσφαιρα με ακουστικές γραμμές στις κιθάρες τους.  Καθώς ξεδιπλώνεται ο δίσκος ,θα σoυ θυμίσει πάρα πολύ Akercocke με μια γενναία δόση σκανδιναβικών riffs .

If you re looking for something raw, then you are searching at the wrong place. The Jarun is a band deeply turned to itself, with the tense to create atmpsphere with acoustic lines by their guitars. As the album goes on, the feeling of Akercocke with a strong sense of scandinavic riffs , will come to your mind.

The Wiegedood have majestically created an atmospheric album. The anger along with a distant feeling and sometimes mysterious really freezes you. It has great pauses and great bursts. Approach it with the right mood and it will flow right beneath your skin.

Από τον παγωμένο βορρά έρχονται οι Auðn . Η ατμόσφαιρα είναι αναμενόμενα ψυχρή, επιβλητική και μαγική. Εγώ γουστάρω  τα κοφτά τους ριφς  και τις ακουστικές στιγμές του δίσκου αλλά και τα «τραβηγμένα» σόλο. Έχει έντονα την αίσθηση του «εξωτερικού μουντού τοπίου» αν θα μπορούσα να τους περιγράψω σε μια πρόταση .

Here they come, the Auðn from the icy North. The atmosphere is as we expected to be cool, pompous and magic. I really like those riffs and the acoustic moments of the album and all these overwhelming solo’s as well. It feels like dull scenery and really intense, if I could describe that.

O δίσκος αυτός φιγουράρει σε πολλές λίστες ως ένας από τους καλυτέρους Black Metal της χρονιάς. Ενώ πραγματεύεται χαοτικά σύμπαντα και έχει αστρική θεματολογία ,ακούγεται τόσο ρεαλιστικά απειλητικός. Η ατμόσφαιρα του δίσκου είναι αυτή που τον κάνει πιο τραχύ σε αντίθεση με ότι συμφωνικό κυκλοφορεί εκεί έξω. Αστρικά Σπάνιος ο Jacob Buczarski.

This album is one of the best Atmospheric Black Metal of the year, as it being shown in many lists .While it deals with chaotic themes and astral inspiration, it sounds so realistically threatening. The atmosphere of the album is what makes it so rough, in comparison with whatever soft is out there. Jacob Buczarski is amazing rare.

Το Lost Ages είναι ένα πολύ εύστοχα σκαρωμένο άλμπουμ. Εμένα με χαϊδεύει ύπουλα . Μπορώ να νιώσω τα prog / post καπρίτσια του, τις Black Metal καμπύλες και να εκτιμήσω ως το μεδούλι του το βάθος και το συναισθηματικό υπόβαθρο. Είναι ένας πραγματικά ώριμος μουσικά γίγαντας. Άψογος και  σχεδόν ερωτικός…

Lost Ages is an album that goes directly in to the point. As for me i fell a gently sneaky touch. I can sense its progressive / post craziness, the Black Metal characteristics and ican value till the last depth the sentimental background of it. It is a really mature music giant. Flawless and almost erotic…

Μετά την πιο ατμοσφαιρική διάθεση του πρώτου δίσκου, οι Arath συνεχίζουν την τριλογία τους με το δεύτερο μέρος .Εδώ αφήνουν τις dungeon synth εμπνεύσεις και καταπιάνονται πιο πολύ με το Black Metal. Σίγουρα κρατούν ένα επικό συναίσθημα αλλά το αναγνωρίσιμο riff του Euronymous ακόμα και στο σήμερα εμπνέει. Το Ungedul είναι σαν να έχει έρθει κατευθείαν από τα 90’s .Ακουστέ και τον πρώτο δίσκο για πιο ολοκληρωμένες  μεσαιωνικές απολαύσεις.

After the more atmospherical mood of the first album, Arath continue their trilogy with second part. Here they abandon the dungeon synth inspirations and get more into Black Metal. They definitely keep an epic feeling but the recognizable riff of Euronymous still inspires even in nowadays. Ungedul is like it has arrived directly from 90’s .Listen to their first album to fulfill your medieval pleasures.

Το ντεμπούτο των Fathomless είναι η επιτομή της εικονοκλασίας. Από το εξώφυλλο μέχρι το τελευταίο κομμάτι θα καταλάβεις ότι αυτός ο δίσκος κάνει αρνήσεις. Όσο  προοδευτικός και αν ακούγεται θα καταλάβεις ότι στον πυρήνα του είναι κατάμαυρο. Η πολύ καλή αισθητική και η συναισθηματική τους τάση τους κάνει να ξεχωρίζουν από τα άλλα σχήματα που ξεπηδούν ανά καιρούς. Τέλειο.

The debut of the Fathomless can be somehow related to the destruction of religious symbols. From the fron page till the last song you will realize that the album is connected to denial. No matter how progressive it sounds you will comprehend that it is deeply black. Their aesthetics and emotial tense make them unique from the bands tha appear at times. Simply PERFECT.

Οι Devlsy είναι από τους τύπους που γουστάρουν ατμόσφαιρα. Οπότε ,με μια περίτεχνη φυγοκέντριση στο κρανίο σου μπολιάζουν όλα τα σκοτάδια τους. Για εμάς όμως τους πιο «πεσιμιστές» είναι σαν το πιο ανάλαφρο στρώμα: είτε νοσταλγούμε ακούγοντας το ,είτε χαλαρώνουμε. Στον τεχνικό τομέα είναι άψογοι με ευφάνταστα ριφς , low tempo συνθέσεις που καταλήγουν σε εκρηκτικά ντελίριο. Οι οπαδοί των Akercocke θα τους λατρέψουν.

The Devlsy are the guys that really like atmospheric music. So, with the help of headbanging their darkness finds the right place in your head. But for those who are kind ‘’romantic’’ either they recall memories by listening to them, or simply relax. Technically, they are perfect with their riffs, compositions are rather slow but they do reach explosive ending .Those who are fond of the Akercocke are about to love them.
