Ο τελευταίος δίσκος της ταλαντούχας τετράδας από την Καλιφόρνια και κατά τη γνώμη μου ο καλύτερός τους, αλλά και μια από τις καλύτερες κυκλοφορίες του περασμένου χρόνου. Ακόμα πιο έντονος post πειραματικός ήχος, epic ατμόσφαιρα, noise στοιχεία και τον Harry Cantwell (drums) να παίζει παπάδες σε όλο το δίσκο. Στιχουργικά πρόκειται για ένα ακόμα περήφανο δείγμα της μητροπολιτικής σουρεάλ θλίψης στο οποίο μας σύστησαν μπάντες όπως οι Latlos και οι Deafheaven και σε αυτό συμβάλλει και το ψαρωτικό (ακόμα και για αμερικάνικο bm) εξώφυλλο που αποτελεί ένα κολάζ από τους στίχους του δίσκου.  Η παραγωγή έχει γίνει από τον Jack Shirley (Deafheaven, Downfall of Gaia, Fathomless κλπ.) Χαρακτηριστικό του δίσκου είναι ότι τα κομμάτια ρέουν πωρωτικά χωρίς σκαμπανευάσματα, με το καλύτερο κατ' εμέ "Washerwoman" να βρίσκεται στη μέση του album χωρίς να αποτελεί όμως κορύφωση. Το ευφυέστατο στιχουργικά και μουσικά "The Most Modern Staircase" είναι το καλύτερο τέλος για ένα τέτοιο δίσκο. Για τους οπαδούς σχημάτων όπως οι Ash Borer, Deafheaven και Krallice.

The latest album of the talented 4-piece act from California and in my opinion their best one so far and also one of the best releases of the last year. Even more intense post experimental sound, epic atmosphere, noise elements and Harry Cantwell (drums) kicking ass throughout the album. Lyrically speaking it's another fine example of urbal surrealistic grief to which we got introduced by bands like Lantlos and Deafheaven and with the the funny looking (even for an usbm album) cover, which is essentially a collage of the album's lyrics, contributing to this. The album was produced by Jack Shirley (Deafheaven, Downfall of Gaia, Fathomless etc.) The outstanding characteristic of this album is that all its songs rage on without ups and downs with the best (imo) song of the album "Washerwoman" proudly standing in the middle of it, without being its climax though. The lyrically and musically brilliant "The Most Modern Staircase" is the best ending for such an album. For the fans of bands like Ash Borer, Deafheaven and Krallice.

Η καινούρια κυκλοφορία των Αμερικάνων, που διαδέχεται το πολύ καλό split με τους Monvment, το οποίο κυκλοφόρησε σχεδόν ένα χρόνο πριν και έχουμε δει και σε αυτό το Blog. Η μπάντα αναβαθμίζεται ακόμα μια φορά, γράφοντας 6 ποιοτικότατες συνθέσεις, που ακολουθούν το ρεύμα του γρήγορου, συμπαγούς και ατμοσφαιρικού μοντέρνου post-black metal της αμερικάνικης σκηνής. Είναι ο δεύτερος πολύ αξιόλογος δίσκος, μετά από το Sunbather των Deafheaven, σε αυτό το ύφος. Highlights του δίσκου οι κομματάρες Many Long Fingers Bent In Pain και το Hammer Of Night.

The recent album by this great American act, which follows the very good split with Monvement, which was released almost a year ago and which has been featured on this blog as well. The band is making once again great progress, by writing 6 top quality compositions, that follow the current of fast, dense and atmospheric modern post-black metal of the US scene. This is the second excellent album of this year in this tyle, along with Sunbather by Deafheaven. Highlights of the album, the tracks Many Long Fingers Bent In Pain and Hammer Of Night.

Καιρό είχαμε να κάνουμε κριτική σε Ep και αυτό εδώ, είναι μια καλή ευκαιρία για να επανορθώσουμε .Ειδικά όταν απ τις κριτικές μας παίρνουν το βάπτισμα του πυρρός αξιόλογες μπάντες. Το solo  απ το Texas παίζει τραχύ και βάναυσο Depressive Metal. Μοιάζει με τις βιβλικές εποχές των ανίερων Silencer. Σίγουρα, δεν μπορούμε να είμαστε τόσο ακριβείς ακούγοντας τρία κομμάτια (Ep είναι μην το ξεχνάς),  αναντίρρητα μπορούμε να πούμε για ένα τεχνικό με αυτοκτονικές θεματικές συγκρότημα, που έχει «πάρει τον δρόμο του».  Ο Nomiis φαίνεται να έχει ασχοληθεί πολύ με το «ανεδαφικό» Black Metal οι επιρροές του από  Corrupted, This Will Destroy You..., Arizmenda, Lantlos είναι εμφανείς .Καλή αρχή μάγκα.

Υ.Γ: Η διασκευή στο Transylvanian Hunger είναι εξαιρετική.

It's been a whine since the last time we reviewed an Ep release and this one is a good chance to make it up to you guys. Especially when through our review a new band is taking a boost. This solo project from Texas plays rough and barbaric depressive metal. It looks like we are back in the biblical times of the unholy Silencer. Sure, we can't be totally accurate when we listen to just three songs (it;s an Ep, don't forget) but we can say without any doubt that this is a techical, suicidal band going down a very interesting path. Nomiis seems quite familiar with "unorthodox" black metal and his influences by bands like Corrupted, This Will Destriy You..., Arizmenda, Lantlos are obvious. Great start dude.

P.S: The cover of Transylvanian Hunger is awesome.

Το συμπαγές καρέ απ την Αμερική, έρχεται να μας μακρύνει τα μούσια μας καμιά ίντσα περίπου .Από την μια έχουμε Low- Tempo doom μελωδίες που θυμίζουν κάτι από τις θεϊκές εισαγωγές του Scent of Death των Solitude Aeternus. Απ την άλλη, Black Metal ξεσπάσματα (yelling, not screaming) ανεβάζουν της στροφές. Στο φινάλε ,τα Sludge σημεία βρίσκονται στο μεταίχμιο των δυο αυτών τάσεων . Είναι απ τα groups που πραγματικά πιστεύω ότι αυτό το  κάνουν όχι για την φήμη αλλά, επειδή είναι παρέα και περνάνε καλά. Και η αλήθεια είναι, ότι οι  παρέες γράφουν την ιστορία. Μην σας περάσει απ’ το  νου ότι είναι μια ρηχή και χαζοχαρούμενη μπάντα. Αντίθετα, ο στίχος του είναι άπειρα σπιριτουαλιστικός (δες το : The Growing Overwhelm ) και θυμίζει sci-fi ταινίες .Ωραία αυτά τα υβριδικά τελικά.    

This solid quartet from US, is making our beards longer by about an inch. On the one hand, we low-tempo, doom melodies which remind me of the divine intros of Scent of Death by Solitude Aeturnus and on the other hand we have black metal bursts (yelling, not screaming), which accelerate the pace. This is one of these groups, which i really believe that they aint't in it for the glory but just as a group o f friends that have fun. And the truth is that suck groups make history. Do not foul yourselves, this is no superficial band. On the contrary their lyrics are kind of spiritual (like The Growing Overwhelm) and it reminds me of sci-fi movies. Hybrid acts are good after all.

Οι Wolvhammer είναι μια τετραμελής μπάντα που σχηματίστηκε το 2008. Η ίδια η μπάντα περιγράφει τη μουσική της ως μια ωμή επίθεση στη θρησκεία, στον καπιταλισμό και στην αγελαία νοοτροπία και πως γράφουν απλά γεμάτα μίσος τραγούδια με σκοπό αυτά να λειτουργήσουν σαν το soundtrack για τη εξέγερση των εργατών και των απόκληρων. Καταιγιστική μουσική και πολυαγαπημένος μισανθρωπικός στίχος. Εκτός από τις κυκλοφορίες που υπάρχουν παραπάνω, η μπάντα συμμετείχε φέτος και σε ένα split με τους  "The Atlas Moth", διασκευάζοντας το τραγούδι Burn των Cure. Όποιος τυχόν το βρει ας κάνει τον κόπο να το στείλει.

Wolvhammer is four-piece band formed in 2008. The band describes its music as a raw attack against religion, capitalism and sheep mentality and states that their hateful and simple songs are meant to be a soundtrack for the uprise of the working people and the disposessed . Pounding music and my favourite missanthropic lyrics. Apart from the releases listed above, the band has also made a split with "The Atlas Moth" this year, covering the song Burn by Cure. Αν και διατηρούμε ακέραια την θέση μας απέναντι στο Black Metal, θεωρώ πως έχουμε ακόμα το δικαίωμα της ευελιξίας. Αυτή την φορά θα μιλήσουμε για ένα πολυδιάστατο δίσκο. Τα πράγματα εδώ είναι απλά. Οι Cough έχουν στόφα μεγάλης μπάντας .Τον δίσκο αυτόν ,άνετα τον ζήλευαν οι  Electric Wizard , Limbic Riot και οι Grief. Η φαρέτρα τους είναι γεμάτη  από βέλη : παρανοϊκό μπασίστα με πτυχίο στην Cathedral-λογία,  δυο κιθαριστές που χαρίζουν απλόχερα δισολίες- grooves και έναν τραγουδιστή ενθουσιώδη  με Doom στοχοπροσήλωση. Την χαριστική βολή την δίνουν οι μισανθρωπικοί στίχοι με την αμαρτία ως κεντρομόλο δύναμη. Ο Βήχας και ο παράς δεν κρύβεται. Αλλά σε παρακαλώ μην μου μιλάς για παράδες και με πιάσουν οι κρυάδες…

Although we've got our minds fixed on Black metal, we ocassionally like to enjoy other dark drugs as well. This album manages to be multi-layered and simple at the same time. Cough is a great band. This album could easily make bands lime Electric Wizard, Limbic Riot and Grief jealous. These guys have some quite lethal arrows in their quiver: a paranoid bass player with a master's degree in Cathedral-like bass lines, a guitarist-duo which offers some kick-ass duo-solos and grooves and a frontman who was born to spread the Doom. The misanthropic lyrics, powered by the concept of sin, give the final touch. Excellent band, great album!

Οι Zozobra είναι το πνευματικό παιδί του Αμερικανού μουσικού Caleb Scodield και σχηματίστηκαν το 2006. Η μπάντα έχει κυκλοφορήσει τρεις δίσκους. Σε αυτόν το δίσκο τα τύμπανα έχει αναλάβει ο Aaron Harris των Isis.
